So today at work about 9:30 am the power went out. We had some generator lights, but not in the rooms that we use so I had to write my chart notes by the light in the hall or using my cellphone.
That is until one of the other MA's came up with a brilliant idea for a light source.
This....
We were practicing medicine by the light of a speculum.
Can you believe that this lit up the room enough to examine patients and do chart notes?!
One of our patients made me laugh so hard I was almost crying because of that light. He asked what it was and I told him it was a speculum. He said he was afraid of that.
So I took his blood pressure and told him it was just a little high and he said that was because he didn't know what I was going to do with that speculum!
Then later my doc came out and told me that when she was in the room with him he was making animal shadows on the wall with his hands!
Also at one point one of out male patients needed to use the bathroom. It's REALLY dark in there without a light, so we gave him our handy lighted speculum to take in there so he wouldn't pee on the wall.
And you all only thought they were used for paps!

Oh my gosh. I LOVE starting my day out with a laugh from you! Ha ha ha!
I didn't know there was a light on a speculum. Neato!
This brings a whole new meaning to :"Let your little light shine!"
All the better to SEE you with my dear!
I didn't know that speculums were lit either. And I'm not sure I wanted to know....
So what you're really saying is while a doctor is down there with a speculum, they can also see if someone has a sore throat.
Waiiiiiiiiiiiit a minute. They have lights in them?! Why did I NOT know that?! Next time I go in for a pap, I am so asking to see the one my dr uses!!!
Lights DO make sense. I just never thought... wow. How enlightening!
First off I never knew they came with lights in them...eekk
And I love the guys excuse for a higher BP
laughed out loud on that one.
I had no idea a speculum could lead to goodtimes.
I just have no words for this. None, zero.
Damn....my husband is NEVER going to believe that they're used for something so awful now!
You're hilarious!
All the better to SEE you with my dear!
